The Itinerant AnglerHey guys –
I’d like some advice from any of you who may have computer skills.

Steve K.MemberZach,
Aaron Sago over at NGTO.org has done this very thing a couple of years ago. I even think Network Solutions was involved in some way. He may be able to offer some advice.

MemberIt’s really pretty simple to move a site. Once you decide where you want to host, all you will need to do is get everything setup and working on your new server, then change the IPs your registrar is using for your DNS

MemberZach:
I REALLY REALLY like GoDaddy.com for my domain registrar. I use it for my personal sites as well as the business and association sites that I manage / control. It makes everything very easy and definitely have earned my recommendation. I transfered domains on Christmas Eve one year and actually talked to a real live person from Texas. Very cool.
With regards to hosting — i use CHI host out of Chicago. I haven’t had any issues with them since moving away from ehostpros (which was not that great).

MemberHosting transfer should be easy… you can still use NETSOL for Domain registration if you want.. you just point the DNS server numbers to your new host.

Membersaw this on a google search…
FWIW you are running a vulnerable version of YaBB that is easily hackable.
http://xforce.iss.net/xforce/xfdb/34848Might want to update your version.

The Itinerant AnglerAxia –
Thank you for that link; that’s the best writeup of the YaBB 2.1 vulnerability I’ve seen.

MemberHey Zach, i can’t offer much advice on moving domains and that kind of stuff as i’ve never had to do it… but i can say that my host is 1and1.com and i have had great luck with them over the last 3 years. I think my email has only gone down once, and i’m not sure if my web site ever has. I pay 9.99 a month, for gobs of space and email accounts, more than i will ever need… not sure if it will meet the needs of this site though. Anyways, check them out.

MemberSorry to necro a four year old post, but when you google search my old handle this is the post that pops up. I wanted to attempt to clear my name because everytime I look at this forum I remember everything that happened.
NetSol was in the wrong. They got hacked and instead of taking the blame themselves they blamed the user. The email that was posted above was a batch of automated emails that got sent out to hundreds of people, as you may have known. My role was to be the messenger and send those emails, since I was the “hosting guy”. It was what was best for the company and it kept me employed. It did not take the end user into consideration, but since we had cleared that hack from the system we figured all was well anyways and not many people would complain. In hindsight, not many did.
I have always prided myself on good customer service, something which was not followed through with in this instance. Sometimes you have to do what you have to do to keep your job. I’m sorry about what transpired. I only hope by publishing the truth of the matter I can somehow be redeemed on the internet, an unforgiving place.
Since that time NetSol laid off my group and I have gained employment with another major company which must go unnamed due to an NDA. I am happy to report that I now do what is in the customer’s best interest and the corporate policy is above and beyond anything NetSol ever provided. Even if I cannot redeem myself via your forum, I do feel like in the real world I am redeemed.
Thank you for your time, and if there are still any lingering questions I would be happy to answer them.

The Itinerant AnglerZach, I have lost count over the years how many times tech support for web hosting companies were wrong. Tech support is generally the front guys and not the actual server admins.
It sounds like some machine(s) dialed up looking for holes in your scripts. Can you get the raw log files?
For the record, I have refused to do anything with NetSol for years.

Justin WittMemberI totally agree with the GoDaddy suggestions.

MemberI can add nothing of value as posting here is about as intense as my computing goes…but two of the other fly fishing sites i post on have recently changed over…namely Clarks board and the Glass board…perhaps you should check with the whos who on those sites…we have a couple of members on this site who seem “plugged in” over there so maybe they can help if you continue to have problems with Jaguar…or any other cats of prey for that matter.
