I would like to know if there is anyone out there in the Denton Texas area that I could talk to or get help in learning about fly tying.

do you have a fly shop in the area? Maybe even in the Dallas or Fort Worth area?
What exactly do you want to know, maybe you can start the process on your own.

I understand completely, and have only been to one fly tying class (free) since I started tying (and that was about a month ago)
Go to YouTube and look for fly tying videos, and you can do a search online for tying videos.

If you’re looking for fly tying video’s, there is Fly Tying: The Anglers Art

Basically it is a TV serries that has been made available for free download though the KWSU television network.

You will need to install their OMN software to download the clips, it’s basically a P2P app for the KWSU TV network which provides only legal content (and the app only works on their downloadable content),  there is hours of fly tying video’s available here, each episode is about 25 minutes long.

    The link is  http://kwsu.org/Offers/FlyTying.aspx

I’ve downloaded all the video’s in the past and past them on to budding fly tiers to help them along

I have been fishing in Montana with my brother, I am trying to get out and fish in the DFW area – work has been keeping me busy but spring is almost here. 🙂

Shout out to the Denton boys…I was born and raised in Denton.

Stuart, you might want to check out Fly tying Made Clear and Simple by Skip Morris http://www.amazon.com/Fly-Tying-Made-Clear-Simple/dp/1878175149

This is the book that was reccomended to me when I first started tying.

    Stuart,
A good resource for you would be the free classes every Wednesday night at the BassPro Shops in Grapevine, 7:00 p.m. They provide the materials and instruction; all you need to bring is your vise and tools. If you cannot make it to Grapevine during the week, try going to BassPro on Saturday morning around 10:00 a.m. I do not know if they still do it, but members from the Dallas Fly club meet there and sit around and tie. They call it the road-kill round-up, and most, if not all, are exceptional tyers.

Thanks Dusty, Grapevine is not to far and I will try to make it on Wednesdays

    http://www.thedubbingteasers.com has some tying videos.

If you go to Flyfisherman Magazine’s site and look under Tying Bench, there’s a video of Bob Clouser doing a basic clouser minnow.
