Anyone have a chance to cast one of these things yet?  I took one for a spin around the parking lot this weekend, and i have to say, i was blown away!

I’ve never been a fan of the high dollar rods, my most expensive rods are probalby in the $250-300 range, and i always justified it by saying in michigan we don’t need the rods that have to cast the big distances on most rivers i fish or deal with major wind out in a valley like guys do out west, and, i mostly fish big streamers where a delicate presentation is the least of my concern.

So, in preperation for a trip later this summer to montana, i thought i might need to upgrade my 4 wt to a 4 piece model (what a great excuse for a new rod, huh) so i stopped to see what all the fuss was with the helios rods.  The guy behind the counter says try this little 3 wt, and i instantly fell in love, so light, so quick, easy to handle, yet it was still casting 80-90′ with relative ease, on top of that it was already over lined by a size.

I also tried a 9′ 4wt, but it didn’t have the same feel at all, i think it was probably the extra 8″, but i’m not sure.

I’m a huge fan of my 8′ #3 Sage XP for flat water, dry fly conditions.
