I recently began a huge web project at Tailwaters. We have an incredible custom shopping cart that was built and I have been uploading thousands of product photos, descriptions, ect. Due to lack of product shots from various companies I have had to shoot a ton of photos. I figured I would share and see if you guys could give any feedback.

Rods were the biggest challenge for me. It’s tough to keep everything consistent. For the ones above, I marked my backdrop in order to keep the rod pieces in consistent position.

I keep hoping that I could pick up a product shot job, but after this project I have noticed that nearly all of these companies shoot photos in house. That said, how do we as photographers get our foot in the door and get these companies to pony up the dough?

I’m of no authority, but those are very impressive shots Matt.

Very nice Matt. As far as how to get in the door, do something different, something that they haven’t seen before and in house staff can not replicate. The marketing piece (image) has to trigger the impulse purchase trait in the viewers. The other option is to be able to deliver consistently with shots that are similar to their in house but less expensive. The latter can be a hangman’s noose though so, caution on the approach and fit it into a proper business plan that measures feasibility.
