Happy New Year! last day of 2006 fish

Just wanted to say happy New Year and share some pics from the last few days. I ended the year this afternoon with a few decent fish and nice weather. The fall season of 2006 was my best yet and I was very fortunate to be able to fish about 40 days between mid September and today and owe so much to my wife for being as understanding as she is of this addiction. I don’t keep a fishing log and could only guess at how many fish were landed…enough is all I can tell myself. I made progress in situations that have given me trouble and then had a few days where I got spanked when it shoud have been easy. What a year it was.
I hope that everyone has a great 2007!
There is nothing special about this little guy and normally I would not even bother with a pic, except that he jumped about a dozen times and fought like he weighed three times what he did. I landed him when he ran him self up on the bank!
This guy was 29″ of bad attitude. I was sure he was foul hooked in the tail by the way he took off on his first run. I was ready to break him off and decided to make sure and was shocked when I saw he was hooked right where he was supposed to be. (These pics are stamped 12/28/05…the date was wrong when I set up my new camera and I didn’t catch it until I looked at the pics. These are from a few days ago)
I don’t know why I put the rod upside down? She was ready to burst!

Thanks for sharing. Were those fish caught in the middle of town? I’ve never thought of steelhead in an urban setting. Kind of cool.

Several years ago a marine sargent I had been corresponding with sent me a photo of himself with a large steelhead caught underneath the downtown Rochester, New York bridge. There were old bicycles in the river. Pretty strange looking scene–“trout live in ??? places.”

Scottyep, “ghetto Steelhead” (i really wish I had coined that!) is about what it was and you would be shocked at some of the ditches that get fish. I had never fished this particular stretch of stream, mostly due to it’s location and we ended up finding some awesome water in the 1/2 mile that we walked. I will have to remember to take something a little more substantial than a .380 the next time though…
I have to work a few days and will be right back there if the weather holds. Paul pointed out what a freak of a year it has been in this area. Paul, I hope it stays just like this. Might be a good time to pick up a snowmobile very cheap.The Genesee river runs right through Rochester and I have heard that the downtown area there is true crips and bloods ghetto fishing. Bring BIG guns that hold lots of bullets.
Carter, I have been switching back and forth with the black frame and can’t decide which I like better. I am probably going to go back with the black/gold. I tossed the O.F. on my TiCr 7wt for the heck of it last month and now find myself grabbing that combo more than anything else. The TiCr is just an awesome rod and the O.F. blows up the Battenkill mid-arbor I had on it. The gold came with the black knob.
