MemberIs Bristol Bay the sole source of GRAPHITE and TITANIUM in North America?

MemberI’m pretty sure carbon is a chemical element, if I remember my periodic table correctly from high school.

Bob RigginsMemberThe original poster, however, makes a point that is lost on some. If we do not grow a commodity we get it through mining of some sort.
Who, specifically, is the point lost on?

MemberRight on, mining is necessary and I fully support mining done in an environmentally safe manner.

Spencer-am not picking on you, but what do you mean by: Environmentally Safe Manner? Is that possible?

MemberI think the original post is a disingenuous troll. It fails to put forth any argument whatsoever except: “mineral extraction is necessary for our fly rods, reels, computers, and jeeps”. No shit. What, exactly, does the nature of carbon have to do with the proposed Pebble Creek Mine? Your scattergun is missing the target here, Geoff.

MemberGraphite is a mineral, it’s chemical formula is C (carbon) just as diamond is a mineral and it’s chemical formula is C. (Check it out on webmineral) A mineral in a naturally occurring, inorganic, solid, with a specific chemistry and crystal shape.
You may figure that it’s appropriate to stop the Pebble mine because you don’t have any use for gold, but the Pebble mine is more than a gold mine it is also a copper mine.

MemberIt shows how we take for granted the luxuries of our existence that come from digging holes in the ground.
This is true enough, even for gold.

David AndersonMemberHere in Oz we do very well off the back of coal and iron mining amongst others, and to be sure, it can be a messy business so I would be a bit uncomfortable with jumping on a high horse about the environmental impacts vs. social benefits.
I doubt much of the coal we export goes to clean & green power generation. But –
It’s fairly obvious to me that the mining industry needs firm regulation and not everywhere there is wealth in the ground is suitable for mining.
I also think, as consumers, we’re out of control and could spend

The Itinerant AnglerHey boys –
This post went up while I was helping a buddy negotiate buying a skiff or I’d have been here sooner.
First of all, thanks for the post, Geoff.
