While fishing the Tarryall River, a friend gave me a couple Goddard Caddis to try.

For some reason I have a really hard time seeing them on the water.

I had pretty good luck keeping an eye on it in fast water, although nothing like a parachute adams for visibility.

    PR,

I also have trouble seeing them and as a result don’t use them much. I have a half dozen that really look nice when they’re lined up neatly in my flybox.

I was listening to a podcast lately that talked of fly patterns catch more anglers than trout and the Goodard Caddis was mentioned…as when was the last time you saw a caddis in the air with two short strands of hard mono coming out the front of it’s head…

Kind of like two flyfishermen fishing in February, one fishing with micro midges and not catching anything, and one using a size 12 royal wulff and catching large browns…

    PoudreRiver or Cameron,

Do either of you have any experience with the Rio Grande? I’m going to spend a week on it and the Conejos in Sept.

As a matter of interest guys, John Goddard is a old friend of mine from back home in the UK.

The Goddard caddis as you know it was in fact a fly that both Cliff Henry and John Goddard innovated, Cliff being a friend of Johns , who worked with him to publish a book called Trout

    Hey Davy –

Congrats on the Davy Knot being named Field and Stream’s knot of the month for July.

I have used that knot to land peacock bass, bluefish, ladyfish, trout, smallmouth, largemouth, and many other kinds of fish.

Davy, thanks for the history on the fly, part of fly fishing is the enjoyment of finding out where certain patterns came from.
