    Hey guys –

Just a heads up: I haven’t had a feature published since my “Breathing Underwater” piece ran last April, but that’s mostly because I spent the summer writing stuff that is about to start cycling through.

PS I am decidedly nervous about how the bamboo piece will be received.

Hey Zach! Looking forward to reading your stuff! I’ve enjoyed the articles you’ve had posted on this site.
Question for you, do you ever fish bamboo rods yourself? My father-in-law is a garage sale freak and has collected over a hundred bamboo rods but I have never played around with them before because they look so damn fragile. I’ve noticed that most of the ones he has come with two tips. I have always thought that was because they break easy. So do you think it is worth giving one of these old bamboo rods a try? And if so, what kind of line and reel would you match it up with?
Just curious. After being a member on this site for the past month, I find myself wanting to try all kinds of new things!

    Moose –

Yeah, I have fished bamboo a fair number of times.

Those rods may be worth a fortune.

I’d say try getting an Orvis bamboo in good condition and you got a bamboo rod that will fish for ever (they are impregnated so they are VERY durable), affordable (since Orvis made TONS of them during period 1960-1980) and keep their value well.

Here is my Orvis Superfine (rod built in 1968, me too!
