…into something meaningful.
I was up late last night – bad gut due to late chili (yes, I’m an idiot, but
)
Ended up doing some photo editing…..and found a photo from the koi pond which I’d taken while staying in Cauvicourt Haut-Mesnil, south of Caen about 2.5 years ago during a visit to Normandy to explore the D-Day beaches/hot spots….I and knew immediately what I needed to do with it.
Some time later, I have this:

It’s titled “Be Yourself”
I posted it to our kayak fishing boards, as yesterday we found out we’d lost
one of our community; a mad, beautiful French-Canadian who I’d gotten to
know over the phone calls we’d had in the course of the time I was with
Malibu Kayaks. A really cool guy, who was very passionate about kayak fishing, the
adventure of it, and joy of it. Sadly, it claimed his life – he got caught
in a really ugly storm in Ontario – was geared out for it, but this storm was brutally
fierce, and it took him.
So – the title of the piece fits him – and the irony of where it was shot,
the subject, and how it fit him – well…..it was rather poignant to me.
Funny how something years later can come full circle, and be so applicable now. What an interesting thing photography is…
