Has anyone tried NASA Worldwind?  If so, how does it compare with Google Earth for high-res coverage?

Based on the general descriptions, I get the impression that the coverage is much better on GE, so I haven’t downloaded Worldwind yet.  No sense in taking the time to download, install, and learn my way around a new program if it doesn’t do anything I can’t do with GE.  The whole open source nature of Worldwind has a feel-good quality to it, I guess, but I’m not enough of a hippie to care about that if it’s an inferior product.

However, GE really suffers once you get away from major population centers and start trying to look at things like creeks out in the country.  If Worldwind covers enough places that GE doesn’t, maybe it’s worth the bother to download and use both.

    Hey Brian-

I looked with interest at this WorldWind program but couldn’t find a version for Mac.

I still think the best overall imagery is the B&W USGS DOQQ photos.

Plus they have been talking about using pretty much up-to-date imagery.

    Oh, now that’s just great.
