Anyone have recommendations for fly fishing in South Carolina or surrounding regions? I’m based in Texas and the company I work for is about to break ground and start construction on a facility near Chester, SC, about mid-way between Columbia and Charlotte, NC (approximately an hour either way). Over the next two years I could be spending time there setting up equipment and training personnel at varying times of the year, from a week to six weeks at a time, and if possible I’ll take advantage of the situation to try some new water. Nantahala National Forest and Great Smoky Mountains National Park appear to be about three hours away and great for a weekend escape, but evening getaways would be great if they exist in the area.

Trout is the favored target, but I’ll fish for just about anything!

Not exactly an evening getaway, but here’s something you may want to look into and try:

David…just give me a heads up when you are coming this way and we’ll work out a way to meet up.

David, I am in Charlotte, a few miles SE of downtown.  Feel free to send me a note if you want to wet a line sometime or need some info about Charlotte.

For trout, I tend to fish small NC streams that require too much driving and a few miles of hiking.  It would obviously involve some extra windshield time for you, but I would be glad to have you come along.  There are also delayed harvest options, if that is your preference.

I need to fish sometime with Cameron, too.

    David:

We have a great variety of trout water in western NC a couple of hours up the hill from Columbia.
