MemberHi all. New here but not to flyfishing. Mostly have fished warm water. My son and I are looking for a fly fishing guide for the Little Red in Arkansas. We are planning on fishing October 3rd and would appreciate any advice or recommendations anyone can offer. Both of us are competent casters in still water but lack experience in moving water. Thanks in advance for any help and am looking forward to spending time here in the forums.

You need to be looking in the Little Red River area, about 1h15m away in Heber Springs Arkansas.

MemberMost of the fisherman will be standing elbow to elbow & fishing for spawners down at Cow Shoals in early October…Youd probably have a better trip on the White or Norfork Tailwater. If your son is under 16 he could fish Dry Run creek and that is an opportunaty you shouldnt pass up if he’s eligable…As for Arkansas Guides…there are many good ones…but I’d recommend John Gulley if he’s not already booked up…but there are many others…Lots of information on John Wilson’s site…check it out.

MemberThe one I’ve used on the Little Red and then the Norfolk was Duane Hada. He was good. We sight fished with sowbugs on the Little Red and it was a real learning experience. Like someone else said, Cow shoals will be a zoo with people doing crazy things to ‘catch’ a fish. The White may be a better option. We will be there in the middle of October for a week. The COE has predicted that the water may be wadeable by the first of October on the White.

MemberZach, that was from one of the guys posting on John Wilsons website. The lake (Bull Shoals) is dropping so fast I think they will hit it if no major rain events occur. I know before I left for Idaho two weeks ago, the lake was fourteen feet above power pool. I just checked the graph and its down to four feet above power pool. Supposedly, when they reach power pool, they will cut back on generation. I’m a little mixed about that. The fishing reports say that it’s been great with the high river levels. I don’t think they will quit generating completley, but I would like to see a consistent three or four generator flow for a period of time. Of course I’d like to have a little wadeable water too. Can’t have it all!

The Itinerant AnglerIt is looking like BSD will hit power pool this week, after which they are supposed to pull it down to 4 units.
