MemberCurrent issues features a cover shot of a Colorado kid who apparently caught a 12-pound cutbow (or larger) on a #18 nymph fished on a 6x tippet on the Dream Stream section of Colorado’s South Platte River.
Beyond that, the photo is done by the kid himself — Landon Mayer.
I’d say the kid deserves some very high praise for this feat … as well as for all his other big trout accomplishments, and many of them documented on video. It’s been said to me that Landon has some enemies on this board, as well as others, and I’m baffled why that would be so.
The kid is clearly a stud. The criticism is jealousy, pure and simple.
Purpose of my thread is to give Landon his props. He deserves them.

MemberI guess I must have come after they gave him crap here. I haven’t read any threads on this site of that nature. To his accomplishment listed above, 12 lbs fish on 6x is truly impressive.

The Itinerant AnglerPablo –
We had a few comments made here a while back about Landon Mayer, none of which were particularly harsh, but one member who had praised him (I felt) misinterpreted the commentary as some kind of virtriolic set of slurs.

Thanks, Mr. Simcoe, for your illuminating response. That clears it up nicely.
Zach, thanks for your explanation. Count me firmly in the fan category re Landon — he’s an outstanding angler and a pretty cool guy. I’d be happy to post under my real name, but until retirement comes along, that ain’t gonna be possible. Hope you can understand that.

Mark SchaferMemberThanks Carter,
I had all but forgotten that line from Orwell. My favorite Orwell is still
“All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others.”Mark

MemberI’m kind of partial to this.
” We sleep safe in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm. “

MemberOrwell was a stud.
Not in any published work but my favorite quote attributed to Orwell has always been, “Advertising is the rattling of a stick inside a swill bucket”.
The marketers will be the end of us.

MemberThought about what I wrote above. Wanted to state, I wasn’t trying to compare myself to Landon in any way – if it was perceived that way I’m sorry wasn’t my intent.

Don’t think that I hold myself up as anything like the quality of angler Landon is; I don’t.
