    Hi

Well it’s dead of winter here ( -40 odd ) and my usual routine right about now is tying and getting ready( building and testing new rigs)

This might be completely daft, but; how about scrimming a ring flash?

I’ve not tried it – it was just a mad idea that hit the brain and came rolling off my fingers onto the computer screen just now.

Perhaps, even if it’s an absurd notion, it’ll inspire you.

There are some seriously cool pics on that site, Will.

Keen to see how it evolves. Its very interesting to me, would love to know more.

The beams are for longer distances and shooting things like birds, if you’re shooting macro at 6 – 10 feet I think they would be too hard.

What about a small softbox mounted on an extendable pole that could be held over the subject or to the side off it to get nice shape ?

Lastolite amongst others make portable softboxes for on camera flash.

Another idea if you need more grunt are the new Quadra battery flash units from Elinchrom, I haven’t got one yet, but from what I’ve seen they will be perfect for location work where an on camera unit just isn’t enough.

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.
