    I am going fishing in the Smokies next month. We were planning a trip to Hazel but after reading Zach’s message it looks like we need a couple of back up plans just in case. We are scheduled to go around the 10th of Nov. so we are keeping our fingers crossed that the rangers will reopen the campsites along Hazel. Once bear activity is sited they will close down that area for about a month. Anyway, are there any good areas where you can backpack in for a few days and be close to good fishing? Great website by the way!!!

    One area you might consider that isn’t getting much pressure right now is Abrams Creek.

    We live in Memphis and do the majority of our fly fishing in Arkansas on the White and Little Red rivers. The Smoky trips are usually backpacking trips with the intent to stop off and fish when we can. Anyway, thanks for the advice and I will let you know how it turns out where ever we decide to go.

    It is a great place to fish when it is on but the Little Red will make me cuss more than a whole boat of sailors!!! I prefer the White especially near the Mount Olive access. Great fishing this time of year as long as they are not generating.

    We stayed at the campsite at the mouth of the lake, I believe Backcountry 90.

    Well we are heading over to Fontana tomorrow and the weather is holding up. We originally wanted to fish Hazel Creek but are having to settle for Eagle Creek because of Yogi and BooBoo.

    Other than the 15 creek crossings it looks like a nice easy hike to campsite 97. I will post some pictures when we get back along with a good fishing report, hopefully.
