MemberNothing is better than an old faithful hat that you take on a good fishing trip. I tend to go back and forth from my Filson Shelter Cloth brim hat, which keeps me dry in the rain, and keeps the hot sun bearable, and a trusty green Scott ball cap. In fact, I have taken the Scott cap on at least three out of state trips this year. Here is a photo of the Scott….its starting to show its use, but I’ll keep it around.

MemberI would love to show a picture of my trusty fishing hat, but alas, it is no longer with us.

MemberI must agree with Cameron, that nothing beats a quality waxed hat for all weather fishing. I’ve had my Watership Haven going on 7 years now and there’s no sign of it losing its effectiveness. It replaced another wide-brimed, waxed hat I’d had for 15 years and inadvertantly left it on an airplane. Been dunked alot of times but really does the job.

I got mine at Noggin Tops: http://www.noggintops.com/page.cfm?p=65

MemberI love Filson gear (heck, my Brittany is named Filson), but my waxed cotton hat only sees wet-weather duty.

MemberWhen it’s hot out…the Barmah Drover; it’s well ventilated and keeps the sun off.

Otherwise, my sweaty/stinky Scott Hat.

MemberI can’t add to this post because I wear a visor. 🙁
But the Simms Tank hat is the bomb when it gets cold.

MemberThis is my old Henschel that has served me well for many years.
The Sheepskin Hat band carries enough flies to allow me to eliminate at least one fly box for a days fishing.
Actually I have two of the hat bands set up. One warmwater & one saltwater, so all I have to do is change the hat band before I leave in the morning.Sep 4, 2007 at 6:27 am #18999patrick mccormick

MemberI know a guy here that someone struck gold and got a Nat. Park Service cap. He’s had folk’s digging for licenses just by approaching them.
I’ve got two fishing hats. For rivers when the sun is an issue I prefer a real “hat”. It’s the Orvis fishing hat that they discontinued, but is made out of the same breathable material as the Silver Label waders. Which is nice because I don’t get too hot and it is waterproof. I don’t like the neck strap on it though, ’tis a pain to have to tuck into the hat to get out of the way.

My other hat is my grab and go ballcap. It is a yellow Madison River Fishing Co. cap that is nice and stinky. Nice sweat stains, gnarly and mashed up. Got a few dismantled flies from good days on the water jammed into it.

MemberI was able to come into an official issue United States Forest Service hat, how I will not divulge.
