    I agree with Gierach that there is no such thing as a good fishing dog.  

    Don’t tell that to my Lilly.

    I take my yellow dog with out problem but he is a well trained retriever. I have times I enjoy having him with me and days I don’t. I would say it depends on mood.

    Joe is my best fishing partner , does he have his moments , yes , but I could say the same thing about most of my fishing buddies of the human type. He’s more well behaved than half the kids I see out on the water but I’m not going to tell you to leave them at home , if I don’t like it I’m always free to move on.
    Bottom line is if you enjoy the company of your best friend and want to take them fishing then make it work for you. Does he cost me a fish every now and then , of course , but the companionship is worth the price of a fish and then some.

    Bailey just lays on the casting deck and watches for ducks and geese. Outside the occasional smelly fart….you never know he’s there.
