Well where do I start… I bought a new rod on sunday–8wt ZeroG and since then have been counting the minutes to get out and fish it.
Planned on makeing a 1.5hr ride north of Chicago to the Root River to fish the Lake Michigan Tribs.
Now by this time the Chinook are just about finished with their run but the Coho, Browns and some Steelies start showing good action.
I knew it was going to be a good day… hadn’t been out in a while, it was unusally cold for Noveber 1st (28f when I left) and I forgot my camera… not really but my wife swiped for a work travel thing.
Anyway, searched quite a while for that perfect spot it seems more than a few folks had the same plan I did today. I geared up and witin 15min I had landed a really nice Brown about 24 inches. This fish ran a little but it was quickly hadled by my 8wt —would have been exceptional on a 6wt. Well I was sad to release that fish without a picture but I was on the river sans camera. About 2 minutes after the relase, my cell phone buzzes :'(— I think to myself ” A smart guy would have used his camera phone!!!).
Luckily things were steady and I landed 3 Browns in the 24- 26 range and lost a few others–SEE BELOW
This guy was 26 and change and prob weighed 7.5- 8lbs. He looked like a football…GO BEARS.
