OK, so I got really motivated by the other thread on taking photos of flies, so rather than hijack that I thought I would start this one.

I read through the first tutorial by Neal posted in trhe other thread (thanks they are awesome!) and had my first real attempt at taking pics of flies. I tried a couple and I am basically looking for any feedback anyone can give me.

    I was using a Fujifilm Finepix XP15…

    Thanks in advance!

Edit: Doh, realised this also should probably be in the photography section, sorry…

    Nick,

Those are some nice pics.  I like the Partridge and orange fly.  What are the top two patterns?  They look like some real fish catchers.

    Thanks for sharing.

Hey Allyn– ummm I don’t really know what to call them… the top pattern I was kinda going for a copper bugger type of fly but I used a dubbing loop with a blend of some cool flashabou dubbing that I found… It basically comes from being a cross DDH leech/bugger thing… the second fly I just really was experimenting with the Chartreuse/white combo and went with a chartreuse marabou tail/white rabbit fur, sparkle body dubbed body/chartreuse marabou collar to see what I came out with… still no idea for a name… I tend to experiment…

The partidge and orange I have to say that I am really happy with how that pic came out, it kinda wow’ed me a bit and gave me hope that I was doing something right…

As for fish catchers, I hope so, at least 2 months before the water unfreezes, and then I’ll get to test them out… thanks for the feedback!

The Pics look great. I have had the same trouble and look to put these tips to use for myself.
