This is my “splat rat” made from pipe insulating foam from the home depot.

Fishing it down and across the stream with straight 10lb mono leader. I consider this one of my major fishing accomplishments. Didn’t think I could do it.

please view the entire slide show if you want, i’ll try to add captions today if i have time.

Day 1: fished dream stream first. the mosquitos were crazy. camped in mountains nearby. i got 4 bites on the mouse wed night and landed 1 – the one above

Day 2: caddis, trico, pmd all over the place. tom landed 2 browns the second day on small hoppers, strange seeing him with a wedding ring on his hand in some pics. known him since he was in hs, we used to take him to strip clubs when he was the shop grunt.

Day 3: fished high alpine lakes with tom. help of his 4wd got us up there. i caught a dying cutt with bare hands. tom landed a few live ones. got film of the dead one.

fished the blue at dillon and landed a few ‘bows on san juans and hares ears.

Day 4: fished 63 ranch with foam bugs. water was very off color. not much action, a few caddis. had 2 bites on a streamer and landed one small fish. saw a sandhill crane. broke rod on a snag and headed back to breck for back up. drove to snake river by keystone. filmed some trout under a cut bank. water was freezing ‘liquid snow’

drove down stream to fish the snake and found a messed up fish that i caught with my hands. some pics of it under water and from above. thats when i hooked my arm.

Day 5: fished the same section of the snake to no avail. those fish are def. messed up from the mine waste or something. i could poke them with my rod tip and they didn’t move.

drove to blue and saw a monster rainbow. cast to him and either he took the fly or was foul hooked. broke me off. water was high but still wet wadable. fished from foot bridge down and landed one rainbow on a hares hear. very pretty fish with all the protein in the diet there.

hung out at some of my old haunts in breck from fattys to kenosha. good to see some old friends up there. had a good time hanging out with Ned at Breck outfitters. very cozy shop the way he has it now. picked up some tying materials.

Congrats on catching a fish on mouse pattern!!

Looks like you even had a hospital adventure added in the mix ; ) ouch!

I’m interested in the pattern you were using… got a recipe?
