I like the cork burls – I’ve used them on some grips around where your thumb sits. Sometimes on SW grips my thumb nail can wear away normal cork at the front part of a full wells over time. These burl rings seem to be a bit tougher. They look nice as a highlight too.
It looks really nice, Bob. Over the years I’ve watched your rod building get better and better. You are obviously exceeding production quality now and you ought to be commended on that.
Did you wrap and glue the hood of the reel seat to give it that burgundy striped pattern?
I wrapped the rod, which is a deep brown color, with candy apple red thread and no color preserver. This ends up a ruby red when the finish is applied because of the dark brown under it. The trim bands on the reel hood are also thread wraped, however, I had to use a darker maroon color over the gold. Once the finish was applied, it came out a close match to the wrap finish on the rod.
