I spent some time last night reading the common cents pages and was very surprised with the read
I had read it about 2 to 3 years ago and was very pleased with the info once again
It answered lots of my questions

If you liked Bill’s stuff, you may enjoy this too. Or it will put you to sleep at night. Either way, it would have a use.

Most of my rods are somewhat medium action (Scott G2, Sage SLT, Redington R3).
I’m not a good enough caster to honestly be able to tell the difference in one weight rating (3-4, or 5-6).
Hey all,
I have a question that seems somewhat related to this discussion. I own a 4wt (Sage XP), 5wt (Winston BIIX), 6wt (XP), and 8wt (XP). I am heading to Alaska in August and the lodge and guides there recommend 7 and 9wts. Does anyone think there is enough of a difference between a 6-7 & an 8-9 such that I should go get new rods?

My guide in Alaska recommended 6es and 8s hahaha.
When I go to Alaska, I use mainly 6 wt and 8 wt XP’s.
Hey all,

Back to rods and there rated line weights. The whole reason I started that other thread was the perceived “NEED” for a #9 rod. I have 6,7,8 and 10 weight RLPXi’s. Truth be told the #6 fishes great with the #6 GPX SA line which is really a 6 1/2 weight line and the #7 fishes way better with any #8 floater than it does with a #7. The #8 rod is kind of a puzzle, it cast good with a #9 bass bug taper. Not great but, good. The#8 RIO Clouser line cast very well on the #8 RPLXi. I think the #7 cast just as well and is lighter. The #10 is a whole nuther animal because I cast a small 3/8″ rope on it using live Hamsters and small Chickens! ;D Hell, Maybe I need some casting lessons and just to buy a whole bunch of lines and try them out.
