Do any of you use egg patterns for brook/brown trout?

I know you can fish egg patterns to rainbows sitting downstream from spawning browns, and that works pretty well.

The short answer to all of the above is yes.

Eggs are a fact of life in the southern tailwaters, as they are a food source for about 4-6 months of the year.

The silicone otter eggs are the best I’ve seen. I also made some hot glue eggs that look really nice and should last longer.

Man, this thread takes me back to a couple of weeks we spent on the Cumberland. I can almost smell that crisp fall air and feel the chill of hard frost in the morning.

You know Zach, the weather should be more cooperative now if we want to try that Cumby trip again.

Yeah we better do it for two reasons.

There is an article in the latest Fly Fisherman about alaska fishing that has a sidebar about bead eggs.  They use 6 and 8mm beads, and coat them with various colors of nail polish to give them the transluscent look.  Supposed to be deadly.  They attach the bead to the line with a toothpick.  I have also heated up a hook and pushed the beads on to it.  I like nuke eggs (a yarn variation) and i sometimes will tie in a couple pieces of tinsel or crystal flash for a little added spark.  Estaz eggs – basically a nuke egg with a estaz yarn core – work really well also.
