MemberI recently picked up an 07 Clacka WF drifter for use here in Western PA and Ohio on some of the bigger water. I’m definitely excited about the potential that exists for floats targeting smallies and steelhead, but was wondering what some other options are as far as trout fisheries go. I am already planning on checking out the Upper Delaware system and have big plans for the Middle Youghiogheny (which is close to home), but am pretty much clueless when it comes to anything outside of that. Any suggestions?

InactiveI will forgo the steelhead rivers as it seems like you have a pretty good idea on what is out there…but a reminder that property issues in OH are much different than they are in PA…i.e. you’d better make sure where you can and cant beach your boat.
You mentioned the Yough.

Memberst.
I know some guys float the Megalloway in Maine…this is on my short list of things to do.
If you get up here add:
Androscoggin
ConnecticutBoth have excellent sections for trout and small mouth depending on where you are.

MemberHow about the Western MD tailwaters (Savage, N.B. Potomac) or the TN/NC tailaters (S. Holston)?

InactiveThe only thing that can float the savage is a Olympic caliber kayaker or a size 12 Double Humpy.

MemberHuh, I saw a video of some guys in a pontoon boat on it. Maybe it was mislabeled. Never been, was just thinking tailwaters and driftboats.

MemberI’m not sure how far your looking to travel, but we have a ton of great tailwaters here in the southeast. Once you get down around KY, you’ll start seeing some big lakes on your maps, and most of the larger lakes have a great tailwater running out of them.
TN is loaded with fantastic tailwaters, and there are a few good ones in GA and NC as well.
Like I said, not sure of your travel allowance but you might consider the southeast, as our weather will get nice here in a few weeks and it will seem like spring well before spring actually hits.

MemberAnytime the managing agencies give the proper flows.
All the tailwaters down this way are open year round and fish fairly good year round.
Who’d you buy the boat from if you don’t mind me asking?

MemberThe Lehigh is floatable too and has a good trout population (mostly stocked fish with a lot of holdovers).

MemberMike,
Let me know what you find out – I live in DC and try to get out to the Gunpowder or up to PA as much as I can.
