DIY Kayak Redfish Trip? (LA)

I am looking into doing a diy kayak redfishing trip with a couple of buddies of mine who are all hardcore kayak fly fisherman. I opted for a guide, but that was shot down. Does anyone have any info on something of this nature?
I know it is a long shot, just trying to find some info.
There was a ‘Dollar Wise Fly’ episode on Redfish in LA … http://www.versus.com/dollarwise . Not sure if there is anywhere online to watch the episode, but the website has some info.

I know of some areas that are good for wade fishing for redfish. They are around the barrier islands in the Gulf near Gulfport, MS. I’ve never been there but I was told about it by someone who lives there.
Most of the areas your talking about you have to have a boat or yak. I’d like to hear of any establishments that actually rent kayaks nearby good fishing. To get to most of the good fishing you almost have to hire a guide. 3 days will run you $1600.00+ At least if you pay that you should be into fish.
