Just a few pictures from my diy bone trip and some thoughts about the Sage tcx 691-4 and Abel 6n for bonefish.
Brought my ‘old’ trusted Burkheimer 790-4 sw and my new Sage tcx 691-4 and a dealer let me take a T&T tnt 790-4…. awesome! This isn’t a scientific rod review… just some off my thoughts…
Had really big expectations about the T&T… but sorry this is absolutely not my rod. Very heavy rod and heavy to cast, the Burky just does everything better. Tried to over line the tnt and it did improve a little… but not great. The finish of the rod is amazing and I hoped for it to amaze me… shame…
Casting the tnt is hard work… and casting into the wind isn’t really great either. It casts o.k on med-long distances but no more then that.
The Sage tcx #6 though is my new baby! OMG! love it! it really blew me away and had enough back-bone for the ‘bigger’ fish (6-8pounds).
Even enough for me to straighten out a #6 hook… I over lined the rod so I fished a SA bonefish #7… amazing! Great power and loads on shorter distances much better then I suspected! Casting into the wind… very very good! but you must use a stiff leader! This is my new bone rod! But the most amazing thing is how light it feels… the combo with the Abel 6n was just a match made in heaven!
Any criticism…. yes maybe one tiny little…. Casting heavy fly’s isn’t great, but that was to be expected! but other than that… amazing rod!
And the DD-shrimp fly kicked ass… every day all day… still the #1!
Enjoy the pics… will add some more when I’m back home on my Flickr.
Best,
Maarten
