The Itinerant AnglerHey guys –
Through the miracle of OnDemand, Lauren and I watched a preview episode of the Discovery Channel’s upcoming documentary series, “Planet Earth.”

MemberI’ve had it scheduled on my DVR since it was first advertised, I can’t wait. Blue planet was a very good series and I agree it may be the best ever put on film. I’m glad to see Discovery coming back,, if there was only hope for TLC. I don’t understand why they don’t change the name of TLC to a more fitting name. The Gender Confused Learning Channel maybe.
Did you catch the show about the Tuna Cowboys Zach? That one was pretty good too. These high paid scuba divers (cowboys) go into huge nets full of 50 to 300 pound Tuna and wrangle sharks out of the nets.

Steve K.MemberThe episode titled, “Planet Carnivore” has some underwater videography shot by Mark Emery. I fished with Mark this past summer on the Naknek and he was in the midst of filming the grizzlies chasing the sockeye at Brooks Falls…for Discovery Channel. He was relating a story about how he was tethered underwater…about 100 yards behind his boat, filming salmon in about 4 feet of water. All of a sudden he sees a set of grizzly legs swimming toward the camera lens….at which time a grizzly presses his nose against the lens. Mark gave me a roughcut dvd of the footage and it is unreal!

photos from http://www.markemeryfilms.comMark is a top-notch fishing guide as well. Based out of King Salmon, AK….the Naknek is his home water during the summer.

Steve K.MemberThanks Zach. I had a blast that day on the Naknek. I spoke with Mark about photography as much as fishing. Of couse he put us on some really nice rainbows, salmon and Northern Pike. The guy should write a book. He was very reluctant to allow fish inside the boat. I asked him why and he showed me some pictures he had taken of the very boat we were in…about two weeks previous. The boat was docked overnight at his boatdock on the Naknek. He had fished with clients all day and they had landed and kept a limit of silver salmon. The fish had flopped around in the bottom of the boat most of the day. The next morning he arives at his dock to prepare the boat for his clients that would be arriving at any minute. As he got out of his suburban, he looks down at the dock and there is a 600 pound grizzly sitting in his boat. To make matters worse, the bruin had chewed the vinyl and foam off the boat seats. Seems the seats had a lot of fish slime on them from the previous day. It made a great photo!
