The shear diversity of fishing options in NZ never ceases to amaze me, and I try to make a point of exploring new options every season, whether it be new rivers, regions, species, etc. This year I was fortunate to have a good friend show me around one of his favorite stillwater haunts, and specifically we chased the lingering damsel hatches at the tail end of summer. This can be frustrating and unpredictable fishing where one day the lakes can seem like they are completely devoid of life, and the next day the water will look like it is boiling from all the rising fish. I never used to be that into stillwater fishing, but suffice it to say that my friend has now unlocked a new addiction.
