I have a Nikon D80 currently and i really like it. I have gotten comfortable and fairly familiar with the camera and i am pleased with the image quality, but i have a little extra change now and i wanted to know from some of the more experienced guys on here if, in your opinion, it would be worth a couple hundred $ to get a D200 or potentially even a D300, although i would like to not fork out that much in the differnece. I appreciate any and all input.

C B, I am in the same boat, in deciding where to go with an upgrade from my D70.

I’m not one of the experts you are looking for, but this recent thread might be useful: http://www.itinerantangler.com/cgi-bin/board/YaBB.pl?num=1299678761

Also, if you do decide to upgrade, I’d consider the D7000 – especially if you don’t want to wait until Nikon releases what ever the D2-300 replacement will be with the new sensors.

I would never suggest, to anyone, that the D200 is a justifiable upgrade from the D80. They both have the same sensor with the D200 having a few more bells and whistles, along with weather sealing and much more durable body.

At least with the D300 you have a better sensor and a far better reduction of digital noise. The D300 is a better upgrade choice compared to both the D80 and D200 with many improvements.

Many D300s shooters are actually converting over to the less expensive D7000 for several reasons, due to this, the price of used D300s are extremely low and some great deals can be had.

The D7000 does have some great qualities about it but keep in mind that it is built for the consumer market, as opposed to the better quality of the body in both your choices of the D200 and D300 prosumer market.

The first question that you must ask yourself is: “Why do I want to upgrade my camera body and will a body upgrade meet that need?”

Thanks for the input Ben. I have looked through the specs on the D200 multiple times and i was gathering the same info, but i didnt know if there was something i was missing. I think i will save a bit more and go with the D300, considering the true differences btwn the D80 and D200 are minimal and until the D400 comes out i will have a fairly current body.
