Oh my Gawd!!! Three days on the Cumberland and I smell awful!!

It was maybe the best trip I have ever had. Many many 2 to 3 pound Browns, some 23”+ bows and one Brown that’s pushing 10 pounds. It was freaking awesome!

My wife said if I don’t get in the shower I would have to sleep with the dogs tonight.

Pics coming soon! Maybe Zach will do an essay for me….

You really need to give me the 411 on how you are fishing the river.

    Mike,

i am going to be on the Cumberland friday and was wondering if you could help me with any pointers.

I haven’t been on the Cumberland in a few weeks and my last trip was not what I would call a big success. If I were trying for big fish this time of year I would fish close to the Dam and hope for a shad kill. The weather should be getting cold enough to send some Shad through the turbines. Maybe try some white or Shad colored streamers fished slow like an injured Shad. Olive or brown Woolly buggers, Sculpin, Scuds and Sowbugs also should work well this time of year. Eggs could still be working but I suspect the Spawn is over.

Other then that the midges might be your best bet if you fish them often. I don’t midge much so it isn’t something I am very good at yet. It’s always a guessing game when I fish Cumberland. It seems like a different river every time I go so I don’t have any magic fly or location I can recommend. I always just start trying to figure it out and sometimes that river beats me very badly. Once the warm weather comes back the heavy rods and big Streamers should start working for the larger fish again.

Let us know how you do
