Hey all, I’m moving to Colorado for a several months to work at a Young Life camp in Buena Vista and wondering about the fishing up there, not used to much except South East waters and curious as to the equipment I will need. Planning on trying to do a lot of fishing up there on my days off and am sure I will get a lot of help from the local fly shop but just wondering if there is any input on something that Santa might be able to bring before the move! I’ve got some thick hodgeman waders-

You will be right in the middle of some great fishing, including the Arkansas.

As far as equipment, I’d recommend a 5wt rod, breathable waders, good wading boots, and a good wading staff and net. You’ll be very thankful that you have a wading staff.

I doubt that the equipment needs will vary greatly from the rivers you currently fish.  You’ll probably deal with more wind and wider rivers than you may be used to, but there is a lot of good water near there, so you will have a lot of different fishing conditions.

A Gore-Tex wading jacket would be handy as well.

    Enjoy your time in Colorado.

If you are around the area in May, you might want to have a float tube for the stillwaters.
