Well I think my fishing is on hold for at least 2-3 weeks, everything is frozen and it doesn’t look like a thaw is coming anytime soon.

I’ll be fishing for trophy trout on the Guadalupe River in South Texas this coming weekend, where the temps are expected to top out near 80.

Mike, how is the trout fishing on the Guadalupe?

    #33031

The river is fishing well this winter, with lots of holdovers, plenty of newly stocked trout, and very wadeable flows.

You got coyotes down there too?

    #33033

Coyotes in our backyard, here in outer suburban Dallas.

Their footprints are pretty easy to find right now in the snow.

Finally above freezing inside the beltway!

As for hoar frost, Zach’s comment is the 2nd time I’ve ever heard of the stuff. First time was on BBC wildlife mag forum. I find it strange how I’d never heard of it and find it referenced twice in such a short amount of time.

When I was up in the Catskills for a week in the Fall of 07, I actually saw two roadkill coyotes.

Upper 60’s all week now back to snow, oh well it was nice while it last!

Saw this one in the Tetons back in fall ’07.  While I was getting this shot, looking through the view finder, you could hear bull elk bugling all around.  It was one of the best experiences ever…felt like there was electricity in the air.

I love seeing bobcats, I usually don’t shoot them when I call them up unless they look sick.

You know what they said about curiosity and the cat!

    Rob,

Check in with one of the shops up that way before you go – I went out yesterday and most of the smaller streams were iced over.

Oh and it was cold as hell out at 9am yesterday.
