I’ll heed Zach’s call for more trip reports.  Below average images for this board (and from a waterproof point and shoot and iPhone), but what the heck…

The fishing has been hard to come by for me this year.  I think I’m still shy of 40 days in 2011 and a “day” now, more often than not, means an hour or two on water within ten miles of home.

Here are a few pictures of some of those trips over the last several weeks.

Why I’m not fishing as often as I used to (and why I don’t mind):

Early morning has been a good time to sneak away and fish.

    Bass and bugs.

I still remember how to take a grip-n-grin self portrait.

His first (of what I hope will be many) carp.

    Snakehead pond.

I recently picked up the Cabelas Custom Glass Rod in an 8wt, which is what I used while fishing on many of these trips.  It’s my first glass rod and I’m really enjoying it.  Thanks to Cameron Mortenson’s writings for the motivation to try glass.  It’s a perfect rod for bass-bugging – it casts the big flies, but doesn’t make a 2lb largemouth feel like a 2 inch bluegill as my RPLXi does.

    Jason,

I’m glad you mentioned the Cabelas glass rod. I’ve been thinking about picking up a 4 weight…..not bad for 99 bones.

BTW…..about 22 years ago I was carrying my son in a similar pack. I’ve got a similar photo of him peering over my shoulder at a brown trout near Little Bottoms on the Little River in GSMNP.

    Good stuff….Thanks for posting.

I was looking at one of those kid carrying backpacks at Dick’s today (my cousin is about to have a son and I thought it might make a good gift).
