A few friends and I made a trip up to the Chattooga on the Georgia-South Carolina border this weekend and had a blast. Fished several different sections over the weekend. Weather was near perfect and the fishing was darn good. Saturday I caught rainbows, browns, and brooks. As conditions changed throughout the day, caught fish on nymphs, streamers, and dries.
Was there a black caddis hatch? That last shot looks like a size 16 black caddis. The Hootch was literally on a blizzard hatch of BC today – it was dry fly heaven.
I am going the Chattooga DH next weekend – what flies were most effective?
Your report makes me happy because it looks like I timed the caddis hatch perfectly.

Neal, there was a small black caddis hatch and lots of midge-types everywhere. And a few drakes sporadically.
As usual the Chattooga was a great time. We all caught fish and the scenery can’t be beat for our slice of the world.
I walked onto a large rock that held several pools of water and into a toad orgy. The large toads were thick all weekend and gave the dog something to do.
Mike volunteered to finish off the mini-keg as he was lifting it into the air.
And the fishing was good, with my dad catching a toad of his own.
