My home water is the Chattahoochee River in Atlanta. Behind my house is a section of water managed as Delayed Harvest (DH), where no trout harvesting is allowed in the winter months and the area receives rather considerable stockings for recreational catch and release purposes. There are a few holdover fish from year to year, but most perish due to heat, harvesting, and getting eaten by bass, heron, otter, etc. The last couple of years had not been very good, with extremes of drought and then 500-year flood.
However, I’ve been having quite a bit of success out there recently, it’s being to feel like the DH season from a few years ago, when 20 fish days were the norm.
A few friends and I got started about mid-morning and fished about 4 hours. Everyone had quite a bit of success, there hardly seemed like a time were someone didn’t have one on.
I used my new Peacock Booger and never had to change the fly all day, even after 30+ fish! It’s pretty worn out now, but I sure got some use out of it today, I’ll probably strip down to the hook and bead and re-tie it.
Air was an unseasonably pleasant 60, and water temp was 43.

Caught my best DH fish in quite some time, a feisty 19″ brown:

Good weather, good fishing, good comradery. A great way to wrap up a great year!
Happy new years to all!!!
