I love my 30D but the enhancements have me very tempted. In large part as I can still get half back of the original purchase on a trade in. So give or take a few bucks I may be able to get a new 40D for 800.00 or so. The big thing for me is the improved IQ and AF, which is already impressive in the 30D. Short of the *pro* bodies the 30D is about as good as it gets and they are only making it better.

    Eye catching highlights
    10.1 MP
    6.5 fps
    Redesigned AF
3 inch LCD with live view
    improved weather sealing

    Worth reading twice

    Improved Image Quality
Although it is based on the image sensor used in the EOS Digital Rebel XTi, the EOS 40D Digital SLR’s 10.1-megapixel CMOS APS-C size image sensor has been significantly improved thanks to the use of larger microlenses over each pixel to reduce noise and expand sensitivity up to ISO 3200.

I am definately interested in the 40D. I currently have a 10D which would be a huge upgrade for me. My wife has been encouraging me to buy the 30D (she is a wonderful woman) but I have been waiting for the anticipated 40D announcement. Glad I waited. Sounds like a great camera at a good price.

Looks like a nice little camera, the specs you guys mention above aqre all good, but I see the best advance over the 30D and 20D being the 14 bit color.
That should give really good color on high contrast situations like fish and tackle and as well should give better highlights.

Stuff I’ve seen from the 1DIII really pops and the noise at high ISO is the lowest of any camera on the market – some of that on the 40D would make it a great camera for the money.
Here’s some more info on them from the Poms.

I’ve ordered two of the new 1DS III’s just announced for my real work (non fishing) and shoould have them in November.

I’ll post some shots as soon from one when they get here…
