You’ll excuse my indulgence here and perhaps for the length of this post. Well it’s almost the end of February. It’s been a really long winter….and far too long since I was last on the water. Thank God that the winter is almost over….and trout season is only about 8 weeks away. I was hoping I’d be reporting back on the trip south I had planned — it was my intention to send in computer updates to this forum as often as possible. Unfortunately, plans can go astray — or as is said by Robbie Burns “The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry” — and I’ve had to cancel my trip south. And put on hold my FFF certification until later. I was in an accident which left me with an injured arm, neck, and shoulder. And without a vehicle to travel south with (not that I could drive right now any way). So my past few weeks have been spent reading books and magazines and Internet forums — mostly about fly fishing, of course. I’ve been unable to do any practising of fly casting (I’d been using a local horse riding academy’s exercise ring to practise in. Or even much fly tying. But I’ve learned to type very effectively using one finger as this post shows. And I went to the recent Spring Fishing Show in Mississauga….and I’m looking forward to such coming attractions as the Fly Fishing Film Tour, the Toronto Sportsmen Show, and the Canadian Fly Fishing Forum. I’m making great progress in my physiotherapy (must be the cute therapist!!!! LOL LOL). So I expect to fully recover in plenty of time to make the trout season opener. And I can see an end to this bad bout of cabin fever.
    Cheers,
    Mike
P.S. Sorry I wasn’t able to “hook” up with anybody as planned this winter. Hopefully I’ll get a chance next winter to get out on the water with those of you who had PM’d me arranging to get together fishing while I was down south.

Cabin Fever-I hear ya! I am not hampered by fishing seasons, and I truly feel for those of you whom are. Texas is certainly not known for its trout, and if I want to chase them it is at least a three-hour drive, regardless of where I go. So now, I am just waiting for the water temp to get to that magical number for the LMB and the carp to start foraging the shores. Until then, I’ll be at my vise.

Good luck with the recovery, Mike, and the CCI as well!

I am looking forward to hitting my local bass haunt next weekend. Pretty lucky to get access on to a farm where the owner will let me turkey hunt the am, fish the day, and then hunt again till dark. All in a day. Hopefully will make for a good spring.

Just over 2 months to the opening of trout season here in Ontario. Actually make that slightly more than 8 weeks. No make that 56 days and 11 hours and 47 minutes (and 37 seconds) to go (well at least at the time of this post). But who’s counting…..

Hopefully, Turkey season will open later in the month. I am still a novice with these birds but

I finally got to spend a little time on the river today. A big cold front rolled in about the time we started fishing and the fish turned off.

Winter over?  I sure hope so, it’s 8 degrees today but suppose to hit almost 60 on Friday!  That will be very short lived but I’ll take it.

    Eric, I feel it.

I would be more than happy to switch to Bozeman from Pittsburgh any day!

My buddies and I are looking at October 5th to the 11th on the Madison and Firehole.

Never know when I’ll be in town, but think about spending a day in Bozeman and doing a kayak trip down the E. Gallatin.

October is a way off, but keep the E. Gallatin in mind as something you might want to do.
