Crane flies for sure! Brown trout love them and they are fun to fish. Fishing them with a long rod and dapping them on the surface with produce big fish and explosive takes! Good times!

    crane flies, family Tipulidae

they congregate on overhanging banks and around outdoor lights at night

the distinct marking or characteristic of them (besides their size) is the tennis racket, dimunitively sized hind wings called halteres.

knew a girl in college who thought they were mosquitos, called them ‘mosquito hawks’

thankfully mosquitos don’t get that big.
