MemberI’ll admit that when it comes to travelling and fishing, I’ve been pretty lucky (thanks to the USAF).

MemberWasn’t there a book “50 places to fish before you die?”

MemberI’m with Dave on the best place being where one can wet the line. However, of the places that I have been, my favorite is a location that I can’t even fish. I can’t even wet the line. Dry Run Creek in Arkansas. IA folks helped me plan a spring break trip last year. My three kids had a blast and are totally hooked on fly fishing. This in itself made it one of my top goto destinations.
For myself, I would have to say fishing the small, mountain ponds in Colorado. Something about fishing these that is an absolute blast. The scenery is very cool and the area is always peaceful.
My destinations are mixed between where I can fish and where the family will go and put up with me fishing. Don’t get me wrong, the whole family likes to fish, it’s just I can fish for the day where they’re good to go in 2 hours or so.
One of my favorite local places is a small creek outside of Branson MO that is so much fun to fish.
As far as my bucket list, I would love to go back to Missoula and Whitefish MT and fish. When we were there in the early ’90’s, I didn’t know what a trout was 🙁 My other place that I want to fish is up in the Banff National Park. It’s not quite the states, but it’s on my list. Anyway, that’s my list for now. I usually just pack my rod and see if I have time.
There was a book by John Ross, America’s 100 Best Trout Streams and another about the 50 places to fish before you die. 50 places seemed to have a lot of non state locations where the other was specific to the states.

John BennettMemberIve got my list, the vast majority of them I’ll never get to.
Mongolia, Patagonia, Belize. So long ago I decided on the next best thing. Try to fish every region of Canada…I may not fish every river or system but I can say I’ve seen Canada coast to coast, from Victioria to New Foundland and even as far north as James Bay. Pick somewher youve never been and make a trip of it.
But to answer your question #1 on my list currently is
NewFoundland and Labrador for monster Brook Trout on Dries.

MemberI have the “50 places to fish before you die” book and can say I’ve only fished two of the 50 so far.
But, in the past 12 months I caught wild trout in the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee with my cousin, browns during a caddis hatch on the South Platte River in Colorado with my son, and my very first Letrort Springs Run trout during the sulphur hatch with my best friend.Jan 7, 2009 at 2:32 pm #32433
Joel ThompsonMemberRick,
You could spend an entire year fishing Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho and never be disappointed! I know that my dream is to someday fish EVERY river in the state of Montana. Been here for almost 41 years now and I am not even close to being half way there. Guess I better get busy!
