I recieved my 691-4 ONE with our early order that came into the store last week. Since recieving it I have been on the water every day fishing with it. So far I have landed smallmouth, carp, trout, and pike on the rod. On Sunday I had it up on the Muskegon in Michigan and caught this guy:

If you have not fished a diving bug on a sinking line, you need to. It is deadly.

The next day I fished the PM for trout and caught some nice browns on hoppers with the rod. Sorry no pics of the trout on hoppers, but here is one from the morning while fishing streamers for kings with my 8wt. Not a monster, but I’ll take it.

The other night I took the rod down to my carp spot in the ghetto. I got down there late with only about an hour of light left, but I smoked the fish down there. Landed 7 and lost 3 others. The rod is a fish fighting machine. There is a ton of power in the butt sectiona and you can really put the screws to the fish. The accuracy of the rod is great. The rod cast great in short and at long distances. Here are some pictures from that night.

    Nice hat.   😉

Haha. I am actually making an SA order right now, so you have to give me a break on the hat.

Did you sew a patch on that cap yourself?

    Zach,

Yeah, I put in on there myself, or I should say my fiancee was nice enough to sew it on for me.

I think the hat looks perfectly servicable. I actually like the patch too.

WHat I really want to know is what is the feel of this rod like. Can you say that it is similar to another rod on the market, or is it a departure from the norm in some way? Is this rod as revolutionary as the marketing from Sage makes it out to be?

I understand that Sage is phasing out the Z-Axis and replacing it with this rod. Is the One really a game changer for people that enjoy Sage rods?

HOw would it compare to the ZXL from their line-up?

I’m a very tactile angler. It matters to me what the rod feels like. The action is also important. The more efficiently I can cast it in terms of my energy expenditure, the better. I want to be able to flick my arm forward lightly and easily get a 60 foot cast before I start having to work to aerialize the line and haul on the line when I cast.
