MemberSarah Palin would probably call it something like, “Maverick Fishing.” I’d be hard pressed to disagree w/ her on this particular issue! I seriously feel like these stories will be the ones that I start w/,”You should’ve seen it 20 years ago!” I’m not exactly sure of the origin however it’s really become the latest and greatest up here in the northland, yep Muskie on the Fly. I heard it chatted about amongst my fly cronies but it’s really only been half hearted, well apparently not anymore.
This Fall and by Fall I mean the month of November, I had the opportunity to fish w/ couple of the area’s most diehard fly chuckers . Two of the four reside here on the board, Timmy Pommer and noob Brian Porter. Both of those guys have this stuff down to a science and in a lot of cases out fishing some of the most proficient hardware throwers and sucker dunkers. In the three trips I took in November to Northern Wisconsin I landed 4 of those pigs and saw at least 4 more landed by buddies. Needless to say I’m addicted!Anyways, that’s enough I’ll show you some pix now.

Porter on the stick

I totally got an education this past month on those monsters but I still have tons to learn. If anybody is interested shoot Brian Porter a PM, I’m pretty sure he is going to start guiding for Skies on top of his current steelhead duties.

MemberNice shots Lee! Who’s the ugly bastard in the green jacket?
Seriously though, musky on the fly is probably one of the ultimate extreme’s of our sport.
Steelhead lured me away from a normal life with a good job, benefits and all that crap, but these cold-blooded killers have started tempting me to warmer waters. It doesn’t hurt that I’ve had the luxury of fishing with one of the true innovators of the sport (that’s him below with the hawg).
Here’s a couple more shots for ya!

MemberWe are also big supporters of “catch and release” for most fish and for all fish caught on a fly rod.

MemberIf you cant handle going a season without landing a muskie (I did), then it’s not cut out for you. Unless you are Mark Stephenson, who hooked his first muskie on the fly after only 10 casts.
Tim, I just didn’t want to wait a season like you did.
Nice fish to all.
