    Hi Guys.
Im looking for a good, simple, and quick to tie baitfish pattern, imitating herring in medium sizes.
I have checked out leftys deciver but would be nice with some alternatives.
The targets are searun brown trouts in the eastern part of the baltic sea (Scandinavia)
Area of fishing is wading on shallow reefs, fishing on dropoffs and shallow parts of reef aswell.
    Any ideas ?

EP Batifish style minnows come to mind, but they are not a quick tie.

    Hi Cole.
Do you have a Picture or a tying instruction for the ep minnow?

Neal Osborn did a great tutorial on the EP baitfish pattern.

    Hi,
Don’t know what to say.  Maybe google Cowen, Popovics or Kreh.  Lefty’s Deceiver is easy to tie.  Also Cowen has one called a magnum baitfish.  Doesn’t look too hard.  There are plenty of demos of Lefty’s Deceiver on the internet.
Lefty Kreh does not like to spend more than 8 minutes tying a fly.
Another tyer worth viewing is David Skok. He is on Cape Cod, Mass., and does a lot of striper fishing.
I wonder if they would take a Clouser?
    Good luck

    Hi Allan,

    Welcome to the board!  Cheers.

For the the type of fishing and species you will be targeting, I would recommend any of the Enrico Puglisi In-Shore/Off-Shore flies.  The Bunker series comes to mind or the floating minnow.  For $20 U.S. you can sign up on his site to gain access to the tutorial videos on how to tie them properly.  Here is a link to fly selections http://epflies.com/flies/in-shore-off-shore.html.

I would also recommend Simon Graham’s site Pike Fly Fishing Articles http://pikeflyfishingarticles.blogspot.com/.  He has a lot of fantastic patterns with good descriptions.  Although it is focused on the Pike and heavily influenced by Northern European tying styles, there is bound to be a pattern or two that work for your needs.
