MemberI just finished re-reading Trout Bum and Sex Death and Fly Fishing. I guess I’ll have to go out and buy the new version of Trout Bum too. I’m heading to the S Platte this summer, I really hope to meet John on the stream while I’m there.

The Itinerant AnglerBut, I have been watching his site since he started publishing at the end of the magazine with Gierach and his prices have tripled. That amazes me because it has not been that long.

Do you see why the magazines regard the end of book painting as an “advertisement” they should not have to pay for now?

MemberHi,
Doesn’t Bob White do the Gierach illustration for Fly Rod and Reel?
Glenn is the Michigan artist who teamed up with Jerry Dennis at times.

You’re right. I had Rod Crossman on the brain after the last issue of Fly Rod and Reel. Bob’s stuff is awesome too (I think he does oils not water color). I really loved the art that accompanied the Gierach story about Labrador a few issues back. The one showing Bob painting was interesting.
Hi, Bob White here.
I’m new to this site and really appreciate what’s being done here, thanks.
I’ve been painting for John’s closing column in Fly Rod & Reel since 1992, when John took over the column after Lee Wulff’s tragic death.
The last issue (July/Oct) marked our 100th column together. I paint in both watercolor and oil; the earlier paintings were all watercolors, and more recently in oils.
To mark the 100th column, my wife, Lisa, created a 100 Painting Retrospective on our website. You’ll find it on our home page…

This will be added to with each new painting… hopefully another seventeen years worth. I think it’s kind of cool to see all of the work together in one place, and I hope you’ll enjoy the collection.
John’s column about Labrador was primarily illustrated by my very good friend CD Clark. The final painting (an oil) was mine, and shows CD at his easel. This was painted from one of John’s photographs.
