You can pick up a gently-used Nikon D700 for right around $2k these days too. And if/when Nikon releases a D700s with video, that price will be driven even further down.

It’s a hell of a workhorse for the price, nearly on par with the D3. Although you can get a gently-used D3 for $3500 too, so those prices are also dropping like mad.

Only problem with a high rez FF camera is the cheap lenses tend to fall down under the pressure.

25 MP’s will push a lens to the limits of what’s possible on 35mm and you will get away with nothing.

A picture is thousand words that takes less than a second while a thousand words is a picture that takes a month.

The money you save you can buy some Zeiss glass. I’d miss the crop factor most so I’ll most likely keep my A700 too.

Yeah, that’s the best thing about the Sont’s IMHO – the availability of Zeiss lenses..

    Mmmmmm Zeisss.

As a Sony user myself, I would like to know where these cheap lenses are, as I would like to stock up on a few. 😮

I’m always concerned that I might not have the best equipment until I look at some work from 50 years ago. Clearly I’m way ahead of what those guys had, equipment wise. Then I’m reminded that it isn’t necessarily equipment that makes a jaw drooping photograph.

I’ve been a Nat Geo fan since I was in the first grade. To get the cover would be equal to climbing Everest for me. Big thumbs up.
Zach the talent this board attracts never ceases to amaze me. Good job man, and Thanks!

    What are the odds?
Just the other day a fellow called me about booking a fishing trip. Said he was in sales and marketing for Sony. I asked what division,,,

    What are the odds?
Just the other day a fellow called me about booking a fishing trip. Said he was in sales and marketing for Sony. I asked what division,,,  and he said the Camera division. I almost dropped the phone. Yall wish me luck this could be epic.

    My suggestion,

Bust your nut to get the guy a fish of a lifetime, and then pull out the oldest, most useless, most stupid little crap camera (or phone) you can find, and get s shot of him & fish.
Then tell him how you wish you had a decent, hi-rez, though not to expensive quality camera.
    😉 😀
