I’ve been using Aperture for a while,(since my Lightroom beta ran out). I just bought the new version 2 and I think its what I am going to use going forward. It does pretty much everything that you need to do to a photograph spot, sharpen color correct and much more. The workflow and application speed is excellent. I think you could pretty much stay out of Photoshop except for when you really want to deep fry an image. All the latest camera raw formats D3, D300 Cannon G9 are supported as well as Adobe DNG.
KUDOS to Joe Schorr and the Aperture team for a great update. You can download the 30 day trial at http://www.apple.com/aperture/ Check it out!

David, or anyone else – – – do you know if the new Aperture is compatible with MacBook Pro 17″ 2gb Ram?

David, or anyone else – – – do you know if the new Aperture is compatible with MacBook Pro 17″ 2gb Ram?  In the past Aperture would not load on my system.  No big deal really since I use Photoshop but it would be nice to look at this program for an introduction.

    The specs are here:

    Almost everything Apple’s line.

Any version of Aperature should be able to run on your MBP. When you ran it before, was it just slow (which it shouldn’t be with a 17″ MBP) or did you have errors when installing? You might try turning off dashboard when running Aperature (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20050723123302403).

Anyways Aperature is a great program and can’t wait to try out the new version when I finally have the money to get rid of my ancient powerbook g3 and get a new MBP.

I am running Aperture 2 on a G4 Powerbook and a Dual Processor G5 desktop, both are Power PC processors. I was using 1.5.6 and 2 is noticeably faster. There are a lot of resources for training online at the Apple website and Lynda.com. The more I use it the more I like it. You can use Aperture for general rating and prep and round trip to Photoshop to fine tune your 5 star selects if they need it. The only other software that I have seen that I think is a must have is Nik Softwares U-Point Technology that is in Nikon Capture NX and the new plugin for Photoshop called Viveza. Go to Nik software and check it out the U-Point technology is awesome. http://www.niksoftware.com/viveza/usa/entry.php?view=intro/viveza_announcement.shtml
