My cousin Jacob Campbell, who first told me about using balloon indicators, informed me last night that he hasn’t used crimp on split shot in some months.

Apparently tungsten putty, which costs an arm and a leg, can hold on to a leader if you treat it right, and will keep getting your fly down all day.

A chunk the size of a large nickel costs about $9 so this isn’t something you want to lose, but according to Jake it never slides or comes off.

You get a chunk in your hands, roll it into a ball, crush the ball into a disc, then roll it on to your leader *in the same direction*.

Do let us know how well it works. I have started using Tungsten beads on most all my BH’s.

    Zach,

I’ve started using Tungsten Sticky Weight after Sanman turned me on to it on the Caney.

    Hey guys,

I’ve been using the Loon Deep Soft weight which is a tungsten putty for about four years.

I don’t understand — how do you guys get your flies to float with all that weight on the line??
