Anyone excited about the Sage Z-axis yet?

I just bought the saltwater version of the 690 rod. I’ve only lawn casted so far. Incredibly light and smooth medium-fast rod. I bet it’s a killer for ultra light saltwater fishing as well as heavy trout fishing (streamers mostly). I bet it even cast smaller bass bugs as well.

I picked up my 691 yesterday! Can’t wait to try it out, maybe later today. What line did you put on your rod? I went with the Sage Performance Taper. Sage really got it right with these rods!

I think the line on my reel is a Orvis Wonderline. Could be a Sage Performance Taper too.
    Well anyway, it casts great.

I thought about getting the saltwater version of the 690 XP, but I never heard any raves about it. Then the Z-axis rods arrived. Was/is the 690 XP any good?

What are you going to use your rod for?

I think the Z-Axis has a softer tip and handles shorter casts better than the XP. I think the Z-Axis will be a great all around rod for big rivers and lakes and I will probably use it for streamers and medium size poppers etc for bass. I like the full wells grip and I want to try fishing streamers on a full sink line a la Kelley Galloup. I took the rod out to a local pond and tied on a Clouser minnow and it handled the weight well.

I mostly fish for trout simply because there isn’t any here in The Netherlands!
So I travel abroad to neighbouring countries (Germany & Austria mostly).

Pike fishing is pretty good here. No bass like large mouth or small mouth here.

I’ll use my Z-axis for streamer fishing for trout, ultra light saltwater along the shores and everything in between.

I test casted a 9′ 5-weight a couple weeks ago and absolutely loved it.
