I have been doing some hard looking at macro lenses for the new 30d in the last week, specifically the ef-s 60.  Can anyone tell me the difference between setting my 28-135 at 60 and using the 60 macro?  I did some testing and it seems the focusing distance of the 28-135 is about 1′ at 60mm , and the macro has the same 1′ min distance according to canon specs.  Is the magnification different or something?  I have been trying to find a macro in the stores around here to test drive but apparently they aren’t stocked all that often.

OK.. i’ve done some more research and learned a few things.  1st, the focusing distance is measured from the film plane and not the end of the lens like i was, that makes a pretty big difference.  Also, the retailer web site i was looking at the specs on lists the distance as 1′, for the macro but canon’s website lists it at 7″, apparently someone thought the would just round to the nearset whole number.  Small but big difference.

Zach, you think 60 like yours is the way to go?  Canon also has a 100…. for a few more $$$$.
