Dave and I covered some serious miles and about 1000′ ft of elevation change from where we entered the river. Don’t know how many we caught but we caught fish after fish in all the suspect places.

I wasn’t comfortable taking my DSLR on this one so I took a Nikon J1. It does much better then my waterproof camera but I had to be pretty cautious not to dunk it…

Zip screws in felt bottoms = Billy Goat Boots! I was amazed at how well this actually worked. ONLY way to go in this kind of geology. My scabs and bruises from last weekend (with just felt) have almost healed and I’m glad to report no new injuries.

This shot does this falls no justice. It’s tall, steep, and not alot of foot/hand holds.

I know these are tiny Trout but when you’re in this kind of place who cares. Besides these are the “trophies” of this stream. 🙂

The magnitude of the beauty in this place is hard to describe or capture on media.

Another pretty sizable falls. We had to find a trail to bypass this one. No way over without climbing gear. At least not for me…

Another falls with a plunge pool that provided many of these.

The river changes up high and flattens out for a little stretch (relatively speaking). Thunder rumbling in the background is the only reason we didn’t fish this out till near dark.

Another amazing trip on the books. Once we left the main trail we never saw or heard another human. Perfect!!

    Mike,

One again, those are outstanding. You got some really good shots of very nice brookies.
It’s really tough to capture all of the beauty of these streams but it looks like you got it.

I spent a week there in May with my GF. She liked it so much, I think that we’re going for another week next year in conjunction with a trip to Virginia. I may hit you up for some tips before then.

Very nice! That J1 did a great job with the colors. Those fish are lit up! Like the salamander shot too.

    #74731

    Thanks.

The little J1 fills a niche pretty well. I need to spend more time with it though. The settings are somewhat of a pain to get to so I end up just shooting in P mode most of the time. What I need to work out is how to set focus points. That would solve the biggest issue I have with the camera. It’s also a bit noisy, but for its price it’s actually pretty nice.

The convenience of this camera really has me wanting to check out a Leica…

Annoying. I set the clocks on the board properly (thanks Scott K.) and it seems to have gone a bit squirrelly.

    #74792

You should have to buy me a beer for that.

    #74793

    Seems squirrelly still.

That’s just the time stamp thing, Mike. See my other post. It’ll sort itself out in less than 4 hours.

Whoops! I think I accidentally cleaned Mike’s account out when I was deleting some spammers. Sorry Mike! I’m trying to get it fixed.

It WORKED! Hahaha! That was not as hard as I thought.
