I was watching the great potty mouth English Chef Gordon Ramsey’s Show The F Word on BBC America. He was cooking Deer Tenderloin yummy, I was hooked. I was lucky enough to be in possession of some Deer tenderloin which I cooked up according to his method and it turned out great. Anyway the Show has quite a few interesting characters and features so check it out and BBC America it is a welcome diversion to our networks.

One Character, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall caught my attention. Hugh is a bit of a crusader for sustainable agriculture and a back to the land type. Having given up big city life and moved to country to live off the bounty of a “Small Holding”, eating fish and game gathering mushrooms and native plants.

His escapades and experiences are documented in the River Cottage Series from BBC and a earlier series called A Cook On The Wild Side and several books.

It s made me want to raise more of my own food and actually start hunting again and put in a bigger garden. Any of you doing this or feel the same way as I do?
You can find out more at http://www.rivercottage.net/

Heres a link to a clip of Hugh on YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_VcfqGhfgxo

Unrelated totally, but also check out Top Gear on BBC, great car show which I think is their most popular show.

    with good reason!

I like Top Gear! The Isle Of Man Show was cool! Not much room in the Porsche S for a fly rod.

I found the stewardship of the land and the approach to farming interesting from Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. With the issues that we have here surrounding the production of corn and soybeans for food and the raising of livestock and the resulting runoff and negative impact on water quality we might all do well to kill and eat a Deer and plant a bigger garden.
